Dear Great Uncle Allan,
This will be the first time I've ever really addressed you...besides in memorial ceremonies when I've laid a wreath down in memory of what you did for our country. You gave the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom and there's no way any of us could thank you enough for that.
I can't imagine what you'd think of our world today. Since you've left so much has changed. I bet you wouldn't recognize most of it actually. But it's all been mostly for the good and I'm happy to say we've had many peaceful years. Every November 11 there's a ceremony to commemorate the veterans and those who have died for our beautiful country. It's a beautiful time of the year and it's amazing to see our country stand up and remember you all for what you've done. I wish so much that you could be here today with your brothers and sister and watched them grow up. However that wasn't the case.
Grandma and Grandpa have visited you a lot in Holland. It was so nice of the people in the village to take care of you and make sure you weren't forgotten. I'm so glad that we were able to find your resting place and hope one day I might too be able to visit and pay my respects. I don't know a lot about you, but I know that you would be proud of the family we have and how important each person is to each other in it. We have a strong bond among us all and would fight for each other just as you did for our country.
So thank you. Thank you for what you did. I can't express the gratitude I have for what you have done.
Love you.
Sincerely,
Yvette
